NSC Serves Up Much-Loved British Tradition for the Queen's Jubilee

Visitors to the National Stone Centre (NSC) in Wirksworth, Derbyshire, will be able to celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee with a classically English afternoon tea throughout the four-day Bank Holiday.

As part of celebrations for the 70th anniversary of the accession of Queen Elizabeth II, afternoon tea will be served all day from Thursday 2 to Sunday 5 June. The popular Blue Lagoon Cafe at the National Stone Centre will be decorated to mark the occasion during the extended weekend. FREE arts and crafts sessions for children are also planned on Friday 3 and Saturday 4 June.

The event has been organised by the Institute of Quarrying (IQ), which announced its new partnership with the NSC last year. The Institute plans to transform the attraction into a world-class visitor experience and an internationally significant centre of excellence for the quarrying and mineral products industry.

James Thorne, IQ, says: “We’re really looking forward to welcoming the local community to the National Stone Centre to celebrate the Queen’s 70 years of service. Alongside a delicious selection of afternoon tea, a host of arts and crafts activities, and popular gem panning, we are inviting visitors to review our draft proposals showing what the site could look like. There will be a feedback box available if visitors would like to have their say on the future of the site.”
